In Watauga County, Valle Crucis has the rural feel of a small town while being conveniently located right between Banner Elk and Boone, North Carolina. Its location in the Pisgah National Forest offers perfect mountain views of Tester Mountain to the northeast and Valle Mountain to the southwest. This community could not be more perfect for the small family or retiree, with a population of just over 225 people, median age of 45, and placement in the Watauga County School district. The climate in Valle Crucis offers all four seasons, with warm summers to cool winters. The median home price in Valle Crucis is $225,000.

Full of History

Architecture lovers rejoice! Valle Crucis is jam-packed with history. Valle Crucis has multiple attractions that are listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The very first and original Mast General Store is located here and still offers that olden-days feel including selling cups of coffee for only 5 cents each. 

Some chapels in the town are modeled after medieval Welsh architecture, including the Valle Crucis Episcopal Mission. This chapel was built in 1926 and features Gothic-style architecture with a stone gable. It also acts as the town's community center. Valle Crucis is, of course, home to the Valle Crucis Historic District. This district encompasses 50 different historic buildings. One thing's for sure; in Valle Crucis, you'll never run out of sites to visit!


Outdoor Activities

Because of its convenient location within the Pisgah National Forest and the Blue Ridge Parkway, you're certain to never run out of hiking and sightseeing opportunities in Valle Crucis. However, if you're looking to stay in the city limits, the town features Valle Crucis Community Park. Each summer, the park hosts Music in the Valle - a truly wonderful outdoor concert experience drawing visitors from near and far. 

The park offers picnic shelters, children's playgrounds, a long walking trail, and water access for wading fly fishing. A short trip to Blowing Rock will grant you a visit to Appalachian Ski Mountain or  Tweetsie Railroad's Wild West Theme Park, which is perfect for a fun-filled day out with the kids. Or, hop on over to Seven Devils to visit Hawksnest Snow Tubing and Ziplining.
